
Intimidators Win Third Straight Over 'Birds, 8-3

Kannapolis, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators (62-48, 25-17) scored five runs in the third inning and held the Shorebirds (51-62, 16-26) scoreless over the final seven innings to take game three 8-3 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Sunday night.
The Shorebirds scored the first three runs of the game. In the first inning, Michael Rooney drew a one out walk. Then, Ty Kelly singled through the right side. Two batters later, Jacob Julius lined a two-run triple to the wall in right-center field to give the Shorebirds a 2-0 lead.
In the second, Riley Hornback was hit by a pitch. After stealing second and third, he scored on a Mike Mooney single up the middle to increase the lead to 3-0.
Kannapolis responded in the third. Collin Kuhn drew a one out walk. After stealing second base, Keenyn Walker hit a triple to the center field wall to cut the deficit to 3-1. After a walk to Carlos Sanchez, Marcus Semien hit a single to plate Walker. Then, with two aboard, Trayce Thompson connected on his 18th homer of the year to give Kannapolis a 5-3 lead.
Kannapolis tacked on a run in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead.
Shorebirds starter Jarret Martin lasted four innings. He allowed five hits and six runs.
Reliever Cameron Roth entered in the fifth inning and held the Intimidators scoreless over the next three innings. He used double plays to end the fifth and seventh innings.
Kannapolis tacked on two runs in the eighth inning against reliever Josh Dowdy. Rafael Vera singled down the left field line to score Rangel Ravelo and Drew Lee.
Two Kannapolis relievers, Terance Marin and Chris Bassitt, silenced the Shorebirds over the final five innings. They combined to allow just four hits. Marin picked up his third win of the season while Bassitt locked away his first save.
Ty Kelly was the only Shorebirds player with multiple hits.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators play the series finale on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Tim Berry is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
