Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - In a game with more lead changes than your average NASCAR race and ejections for both managers, the Augusta GreenJackets picked up five big runs in the seventh inning to pick up a 9-4 win over the Rome Braves - Augusta's third straight win and their fifth win in their last seven home games.

The GreenJackets took the lead by sending ten to the plate in the seventh and getting four hits in the inning. All four Rome errors were committed in the sloppy seventh inning. With the game tied at four, the GreenJackets picked up three straight hits with the last of those - a single by Ryan Scoma - bringing in the go-ahead run. Augusta added a second run to the lead on a fielding error that allowed a man to score and then they pushed the lead to three on Jeff Arnold's sacrifice fly.

Later in the inning, Devin Harris scored from third on a wild pitch to put the GreenJackets up 8-4. With two outs in the frame, Bobby Haney singled, took second on Rome's second wild pitch in the inning and then scored on a pair of Rome errors to push the lead to five.

Rome had a brief glimmer of a rally in the eighth before getting some bad luck. With runners at second and third and nobody out, Matt Lipka hit a comebacker to Seth Rosin on one hop that deflected off Rosin's leg. The ball bounced right to first baseman Ryan Scoma, who touched first and then threw to second to double off the runner there. Rosin then struck out David Rohm to end the inning and the Braves never again mounted a serious threat.

Rome took the initial lead in the second on Ryan Query's RBI double, but left the bases loaded and led just 1-0. Augusta struck back in the third to take a 2-1 lead on a fielder's choice groundout that brought home the tying run and cost the GreenJackets their manager when Lipso Nava was ejected after arguing the call on the play at third base. Josh Mazzola followed with an RBI single to put the GreenJackets on top.

The Braves scored twice more in the fourth to reclaim the lead. Matt Lipka tied it with an RBI triple and Rohm's fielder's choice groundball brought home the go-ahead run to put the Braves up 3-2. Augusta sent eight to the plate and claimed the lead once again in the fifth. Ryan Lollis tied it with an RBI single while Devin Harris drew a bases-loaded walk to give the GreenJackets a 4-3 edge. Augusta left the bases full as stranded runners would become a theme of the afternoon with the GreenJackets leaving ten aboard and the Braves stranding 12.

Rome tied things yet again in the sixth on Rohm's RBI double to knot things at 4-4, where the game remained until the GreenJackets onslaught in the seventh.

Mario Rodriguez (6-5) threw a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his second win in as many nights while Tyler Stovall (1-5) allowed the first two hits of the seventh inning with those runs charged to him in the loss.

Rome manager Rick Albert was ejected in the midst of the seventh inning chaos for arguing a check swing call with the home plate umpire.

The GreenJackets - now 13-7 at home in the second-half - will send Shawn Sanford (8-7, 2.37) to the mound in search of the series sweep. He'll face Rome righty Aaron Northcraft (3-7, 3.35).
