Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators have played their fair share of pitchers' duels in 2009, but Thursday's 1-0 10-inning win over Lake County may have been the topper. A trio of Kannapolis pitchers-Daniel Hudson, Charlis Burdie and Dan Remenowsky-combined to strike out 21 Captains hitters.

But in the end, Sergio Morales walked off the field at Fieldcerst Cannon Stadium a hero after knocking in the winning run with a base hit with the bags full in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Intimidators loaded the bases without a hit off of reliever Steve Smith (1-2), before Morales drove a groundball into centerfield with the infield drawn in.

To that point the game had been all about pitching. Daniel Hudson struck out a season-high 13 batters in seven innings, but got no offensive support and did not factor in the decision.

Charlis Burdie followed with two scoreless innings while striking out five. Dan Remenowsky (3-0) struck out the side in the top of the 10th. The final seven outs recorded by Intimidators pitchers were via the strikeouts. Hudson, Burdie and Remenowsky combined to hold the Captains to just three hits.

The Intimidators did have their chances early, but were 0-for-10 to start the game with runners in scoring positions. Lake County (8-12) pitching combined to strike out 14 Intimidators hitters.

Kannapolis (13-8) moved to 2-0 in extra-innings games. Both wins have been 1-0 victories in 10 innings.
