Hagerstown Suns News Release

Hagerstown;MD, The Suns were defeated 4-0 on Thursday night as Kannapolis ended their 7 game winning streak. It was a dominant pitching performance by the pitching staff of the Intimidators as they scattered 3 hits and shut the Suns out.

Starter Jason Rice for Kannapolis went the first 4, only allowing 3 hits, while walking two and striking out 2. He gave way to the relief core who were just masterful. Brian Omogrosso was perfect in his 3 innings of work and Paul Moviel pitched the final 2 in scoreless fashion. Omogrosso earned the win for his efforts and ended the Intimidators (11-21)losing streak.

For the Suns (15-18), Waner Mateo didn't pitch all that poorly as he went the first 5, allowing 4 runs, 2 of them earned. A sac-fly to Valenzuela Jr. and a homerun to Brian Metheny plated the first two runs for Kannapolis. 2 errors by Jose Castro in the 5th inning led to two unearned runs. Mateo gave way to Ryan Meyers who pitched well, pitching 3 scoreless innings and Eric Domangue who pitched a scoreless ninth. The Suns had one rally in the 3rd in which the bases were loaded for Nick Evans with one-out. However, Evans hit into a 4-6-3 doubleplay. The Suns only managed one baserunner in the final 6 innings of play.

Tomorrow, the Suns welcome the Asheville Tourists for the first and only time tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 on a Friday Night Fireworks display sponsored by U.S. Cellular and 104.7fm WAYZ. For tickets, please call the Suns at 301-791-6266.
