SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Savannah Sand Gnats stranded 13 runners as the bullpen surrendered 10 late-inning runs in a 13-2 loss to the Lexington Legends Thursday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. With the loss, the Gnats and Legends split the season series, 2-2.

Bryan Lambert Jr. pitched well in the start, scattering nine hits and two walks for three runs, working a season-high six innings. Ricky Shefka gave up three runs on three hits in 0.2 innings of relief while Rudy Garza allowed seven runs in 1.2 frames.

Trailing 3-0, the Gnats got through to Lexington in the fourth inning when Tim Pahuta took Ryan McKeller deep to left for his second home run of the season. The long ball gives Pahuta 12 RBI this year, all of which have come at home.

Savannah fought back to make it a one-run game in the fifth when a leadoff bunt single by Alex Nunez turned into a run when Edgardo Baez drilled a double to right for his 32nd RBI of the year. Baez finished the game 3-for-5.

Clinging to a one-run lead, the Legends pulled away scoring three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth with the help of a two-run triple by J.R Towles, who finished a double short of the cycle. Lexington put the game well out of reach in the ninth with four runs, including two on a home run by Josh Flores to set the score at the 13-2 final.

Savannah is next in action Friday as it hosts the Northern Division's West Virginia Power at 7:05 p.m. The Sand Gnats will send right-hander Carlos Martinez to the mound to face the Power's Shawn Ferguson. Tomorrow is a Fireworks Friday with a free post-game fireworks display and Papa John's Pizza eating contest.
