Crawdads complete sweep of Catfish

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (16-18) were unable to prevent a series sweep as the Hickory Crawdads (18-16) won 8-5 Thursday at Golden Park. CF Andrew McCutchen helped the Crawdads to an early 6-0 lead with a home run in each of the first two innings. He finished 3-for-5 with one double, two home runs, five RBI and three runs. McCutchen now has 13 round-trippers on the season.

The Catfish scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning. LF Adam Godwin stroked a one-out triple and then scored on a ground out by CF Bridger Hunt.

Hickory padded their lead with two runs in the fifth inning. McCutchen led off with a double, followed by a home run off the bat of C Mike McCuistion, his 13th of the season.

RF Lucas May led off the Catfish half of the seventh inning with a walk and moved to third on a double by Hunt. May then scored on a ground out by SS Ivan DeJesus, making the score 8-2.

Columbus continued to fight back in the eighth inning. C Conor McGeehan led off with a double and later scored on a single by 3B Russ Mitchell. May then connected for a home run high off the scoreboard in left field, bringing the Catfish within three at 8-5. It was May's 11th home run of the season and third in the last six games.

RHP Justin Vaclavik ended the threat of a Catfish comeback and earned his ninth save by striking out the side in order in the ninth inning. RHP Todd Redmond (8-5) gave up just two runs in seven innings to get the win. LHP Marlon Arias (7-5) allowed eight runs in four-plus innings and took the loss.

With a walk in the fifth inning 1B Jason Mooneyham extended a streak of reaching base safely in each of his last 44 games.
