Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted three players to advanced A Winston-Salem, catcher Sean O'Connell, second basemen Daniel Mendick, and outfielder Louis Silverio. In corresponding moves the Intimidators will receive second basemen Dante Flores, shortstop Cleuluis Rondon, and catcher Daniel Gonzalez.
Mendick was the 22 round pick of the White Sox in the 2015 draft and raced out to a hot start with the Intimidators. He batted .316 (18/57) while turning heads with phenomenal glove work at second base.
Silverio, was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic but moved to Parkland, Florida and was selected by the White Sox in the 33 round of the 2014 draft. This was his second season in Kannapolis. In six games this year he batted .136 (3/22).
O'Connell started the year with the double-A White Sox affiliate, Birmingham Barons. He appeared in 10 games with Winston-Salem last season. This year he is batting .429 (3/7) in two games.
Flores was the White Sox 18 round selection in 2015 and spent his first professional season in advanced rookie ball, Great Falls. A graduate of USC (University of Southern California), Flores was teammates with current Intimidator Landon Lassiter in the Cape Cod League while playing for the Chatham Anglers.
Rondon will be making his third stop in Kannapolis after spending part of the 2013 and 2014 season with the Intimidators. He was acquired by the White Sox in a trade that sent Jake Peavy to the Red Sox on July 30 2013.
Gonzalez makes his second stop in Kannapolis after appearing in seven games toward the end of last season. He batted an eye popping .429 (13-31) with 20 RBI with men in scoring position in 2015.
Kannapolis takes the field at 7:05 p.m. today in Augusta for the first game of a 3-game series at Lake Olmstead Stadium against the GreenJackets. The Intimidators return home on Wednesday, May 4, for a 7-game home stand against the Hagerstown Suns and Lakewood BlueClaws.
