March 30, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed two players - forward Leo Afonso and midfielder Pep Casas - on short-term agreements from the Club's MLS Next Pro team Inter Miami CF II. Afonso and Casas will be available for tomorrow's match against New York City FC at 7:30 p.m. ET at Chase Stadium.
This marks the second time both players have been signed on short-term agreements for the Club's First Team. The duo made their MLS debut coming on as substitutes in the game against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on Saturday March 23.
Afonso is a former Inter Miami CF product who joined the MLS NEXT Pro ranks after returning to the Club after his collegiate career at University of Virginia. He was the 32nd overall pick in the MLS Superdraft 2024. Since his professional debut, the Academy product has managed to tally four goals in two matchups, making his way on the top of the scoring charts in MLS NEXT Pro.
Casas was also drafted by Inter Miami CF in the MLS SuperDraft 2024. The Spanish midfielder previously featured for the University of North Carolina Wilmington before being selected in the third round of the draft by Inter Miami CF. So far this season, he has made one 2024 MLS NEXT Pro regular season appearance for Inter Miami CF II.
Per MLS rules, the short-term agreements allow clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
