Injury update: José Mari plays the waiting game

July 8, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Colorado Rapids News Release

Colorado Rapids midfielder José Mari is eager for a return to action but insists he will not rush back from an ankle injury which has kept him out of the last two games.

The 26-year-old former Real Zaragoza player turned his left ankle in practice on June 27, a day before the home match with Vancouver Whitecaps. Initial thoughts were that he would be sidelined for up to a month, and that remains the case.

He has been gradually building up his rehabilitation. Cycling has played a big part in the early stages, and he hopes soon to be able to start jogging in a straight line, before then moving onto more testing exercises. At the forefront of his mind, though frustrated at not being able to train fully, is the need to be patient.

"I don't want to come back too soon, and then miss a larger part of the season at an important time," he told ColoradoRapids.com.

José Mari has made ten appearances for the Rapids, in what is his first season in MLS, netting three goals and chipping in with one assist.
