Iowa Barnstormers News Release
The Iowa Barnstormers roster has been rocked by a series of injuries following the first two weeks of play. The status of the following players is uncertain moving forward:
DL Dave Calderon
DB Justic'e King
LB Ian McBorrough
DB Titus Howard
DL Carl Igweh
QB Darius-James Peterson
RB Antonio Wimbush
"This is obviously not the way anyone wants to start their season," said General Manager Juli Pettit. "In the first two weeks of play we've seen some key players go down with injuries. We are grateful for our medical partners at Broadlawns for evaluating these injuries and providing the best care possible, but this is still an ongoing process. We appreciate the support and care of our fans. This is a setback for us, there is no denying that, but I have full confidence in my coaching staff and players to get this season back on track."
The Iowa Barnstormers will be signing a number of new athletes to fill the voids. Fans will see those signing announcements over the next couple of weeks.
"You always go into a season understanding injuries can play a toll," said Head Coach Dave Mogensen. "This season thus far has been extreme and has affected us greatly, however we know that is something we may have to overcome so we can't use it as a crutch. The injuries we have suffered to this point are unfortunate, but they do provide great opportunities for the guys stepping into those vacated roles. We will coach those guys up and help them seize those opportunities."
The Iowa Barnstormers will head to Sioux Falls this weekend to face the Storm at the Denny Sanford Premier Center on Sunday, April 9. Kickoff is at 5:05PM.
