Indy Eleven Defender Neveal Hackshaw Receives Trinidad and Tobago National Team Call-Up
June 4, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Indy Eleven News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Indy Eleven's Neveal Hackshaw could be on his way to making his debut in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the coming weeks, but first the defender will have the chance to represent his native Trinidad and Tobago in a pair of friendlies in the next week.
T&T Men's National Team Dennis Lawrence has named Hackshaw to the 19-man roster for exhibitions against Japan tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5, (6:30 p.m. ET) at Toyota Stadium in Aichi Prefecture, Japan; and Canada next Monday, June 10, a neutral site game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
"It's fantastic. It's always an honor to represent my country," Hackshaw said. "It'll be an exciting trip [to Japan], and a long one, but it's going to be a pretty tough game. Japan is good team. I've been watching them play ever since I heard we were going against them."
Hackshaw's international duty will rule him out of the Indy Eleven line-up for this Saturday's match at Memphis 901 FC (8:30 p.m., live on ESPN+). Should Hackshaw be named to the Gold Cup roster by Lawrence, the 23-year-old defender will miss at least three additional USL Championship contests for Indiana's Team with the Soca Warriors set to play Panama (June 18 in Minneapolis), the United States (June 22 in Cleveland) and Guyana (June 26 in Kansas City, Kan.).
Hackshaw has earned 16 caps for Trinidad & Tobago, having made his international debut with the Soca Warriors' U-20 team in January 2015 and his senior international debut two months later as a substitute in a Copa America Centenario qualifying round against Haiti. Hackshaw's most recent international appearance came as an impressive late-game substitute at Wales on March 20.
In league play, Hackshaw continues to be a key figure in Indy Eleven's defensive setup, earning his first Team of the Week honor for his Week 12 standout performance. Hackshaw leads his teammates multiple defending categories, including clearances (38), blocks (10), interceptions (17) and has won the most duels against opponents (73).
After a month at home in league action, Indy Eleven will now hit the road the next two weekends, beginning with next Saturday's first-ever meeting against expansion side Memphis 901 FC. Kickoff for the contest at AutoZone Park is set for 8:30 p.m., and the match will be streamed live online via ESPN+.
After another road tilt on June 15 at another expansion side, Loudoun United FC, Indy Eleven will return to Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, June 22, when it welcomes Atlanta United 2 to the Circle City for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Tickets for that contest - and matches in quick succession on June 26 against Birmingham Legion FC and a rivalry contest against Louisville City FC on June 29 - remain available for as little as $15 and can be purchased at indyeleven.com/tickets or by calling 317-685-1100.
