Republic FC's Sam Werner Named to USL Championship Team of the Week

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Republic FC midfielder Sam Werner has been named to the USL Championship Team of the Week. The midfielder, who is in his first season with the club, played a key role in Sacramento's opening goal and then scored a beautiful finish that proved the game-winner in Republic FC's 2-1 win against San Antonio FC on Saturday.
Werner is the third Republic FC player to be named to the TOTW this season. Forward Cameron Iwasa was named USL Player of the Week for Week 3, while midfielder Jaime Villarreal received the honors in Week 5.
A native of Bozeman, Montana, Werner joined Republic FC ahead of the 2019 season after a collegiate career with Stanford University where he won three consecutive NCAA championships from 2015-17.
Republic FC resume league play this Saturday, June 8, as the club travels to take on Western Conference leaders New Mexico United.
