
Indians To Host Third Annual Victory Field Classic

INDIANAPOLIS -- Four Indiana high school baseball programs are scheduled to take part in the third annual Victory Field Classic on Saturday, May 1. The doubleheader will feature Avon vs. Roncalli at 5:30 p.m. and Westfield vs. Center Grove at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Admission will be $5 for both games, with parking available at Victory Field for $3. Victory Field is located at 501 West Maryland Street on the southwest corner of downtown Indianapolis.
The four schools that are taking part in the classic were a combined 85-36 last year. Troy Drosche's Avon Orioles were 22-10, Keith Hatfield's Roncalli Rebels were 16-11, Ryan Bunnell's Westfield Shamrocks were 24-6 and Dave Gandolph's Center Grove Trojans were 23-9.
Avon won its first game of the 2009 IHSAA Class 4A State Tournament 16-6 against Indianapolis Arsenal Technical, but fell to Brownsburg 4-1 in the following round.
Roncalli closed the 2009 season with a 12-2 setback against Brebeuf Jesuit in the second round of the IHSAA Class 3A State Tournament.
Westfield finished the 2009 regular season tied for the Hoosier Crossroads Conference title and ended postseason play as the IHSAA Class 4A State Championship runners-up, after falling to Fort Wayne Snider 3-2 in eight innings.
Center Grove downed then undefeated Indianapolis Cathedral 5-4 in the first round of the 2009 IHSAA Class 4A State Tournament State Regionals, before falling in the next round to Westfield, 6-0.
Victory Field will also welcome the 44th annual IHSAA Baseball State Tournament Finals on June 18 and 19. Lafayette Central Catholic (A), Heritage Christian (2A), Andrean (3A) and Fort Wayne Snider (4A) took home trophies last June.
The Indians are also proud hosts of the City & County Championship tilts on Friday, May 14. The City game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., while the County game is set to begin no earlier than 8 p.m. Admission will be $5 for both games, with parking available at Victory Field for $3.
The Indians open the 2010 home schedule on Friday, April 16 at Victory Field against their division rivals the Toledo Mud Hens at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at www.IndyIndians.com or by calling the Victory Field Box Office at 317-269-3545.

The Indianapolis Indians are celebrating their 15th season at Victory Field. In each of the 15 days leading up to the 2010 home opener, the Indians will unveil something new at Victory Field this season. The Indianapolis Indians home opener is scheduled for Friday, April 16th at 7:15 p.m. against the division-rival Toledo Mud Hens.
