Indianapolis Indians News Release
OTTAWA, Ontario -- Left fielder Rajai Davis and second baseman Luis Ordaz combined to go 8-for-9 with a walk, triple, homer, three runs and four RBI, while right-hander Marty McLeary pitched six scoreless innings as Indianapolis cruised to a 10-0 blanking of Ottawa Saturday afternoon at Lynx Stadium.
The Indians improve to 12-8 overall and 6-2 on the road, while the Lynx fall to 9-8 overall and 6-2 at home.
Davis reached base safely in all five plate appearances with a walk in the first, single in the fourth, solo dinger and single in the sixth, and triple in the eighth. The 26-year-old improved his batting average to .310 and extended his season-best on-base streak to 17 games.
Ordaz reached base safely on four occasions with singles in the fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth frames. The 31-year-old raised his BA to .339 and extended his season-best hitting streak to six contests.
Indians 1B Yurendell de Caster, SS Brian Bixler and C Einar Diaz contributed to the 15-hit outburst with two base knocks apiece. De Caster and Bixler recorded two runs each, while Bixler also registered two doubles and pair of RBI. De Caster ran his season-best hitting streak to 10 affairs.
Indianapolis picked up its second quality start in as many days with McLeary's gem (6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 SO). The 32-year-old, who improved to 2-1 with the win and lowered his ERA to 2.57 through four starts, combined with relievers Brian Rogers (1.0 IP, 1 BB) and Jesse Chavez (2.0 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 SO) on the Tribe's first nine-inning shutout of the year.
The Indians plated the only run they would need in the fourth. De Caster drew a base on balls, stole second and scored on RF Chris Aguila's single up the middle.
Indianapolis opened up plenty of breathing room when 12 men came to the plate in the sixth. The Tribe matched its season high for runs in an inning (7) and established a new season best for base knocks in a frame (7). The big inning was highlighted by a Bixler two-run double and Davis two-run single.
The Indians added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth en route to their biggest win of the campaign. The Tribe's largest margin of victory coming in was a six-run win over Richmond on April 20.
Lynx LHP J.A. Happ (5.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO) fell to 1-1 with the loss. Ottawa managed just three hits on the afternoon with no individual notching more than one.
The two clubs return to Lynx Stadium on Sunday at 1:05 p.m., for game three of the four-game series. LHP Sean Burnett is scheduled to start for Indianapolis, while LHP Brian Mazone is expected to get the nod for Ottawa.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley call all the action. The pre-game show begins at 12:45 p.m.
