Durham, NC - RHP Andy Sonnanstine allowed just one run while striking out 11 and 1B Wes Bankston went three-for-four at the plate as the Bulls won their third straight over Charlotte, 7-2 on Saturday evening at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Knights catcher Ryan Clark struggled to handle starter Charlie Haeger's knuckleballs, allowing the Bulls to score early. Joel Guzman singled in the second and moved to second on a passed ball. After moving to third on Raul Casanova's ground out he scored on another passed ball to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead.
The Bulls added three runs in the fourth after Jorge Velandia and Chris Richard both walked and Bankston singled to load the bases. Velandia scored on yet another passed ball, and Casanova doubled to drive in Richard and Bankston. Casanova picked up his third RBI of the night in the seventh when he drew a two-out bases loaded walk. Dustan Mohr also drove Bankston in that inning to stretch the lead to 6-1. Both teams added one more run each in their final at bats.
Sonnanstine (2-2) shut the Knights' bats down, with the only run surrendered coming off an Ernie Young home run in the seventh. He allowed just three hits and five walks in seven innings. Haeger (0-5) struck out eight in six innings but allowed four runs (two earned), six hits, and five walks.
