Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons face the Pawtucket Red Sox in the second game of a four-game set from McCoy Stadium (1:05 p.m.). The Herd will be looking to bounce back from a 5-1 defeat last night in which all the runs scored in the game came in the eighth inning. On the mound will be RHP Rafael Perez, who will be looking to bounce back himself from a loss to Pawtucket. Perez allowed three runs in five innings in a loss last Saturday to the PawSox. Pawtucket will counter with RHP David Pauley, who hasn't earned a decision in three games this year.

VS. THE PAWSOX: Since the Bisons rejoined the International League in 1998, no match-up has been closer than Buffalo vs. Pawtucket. After 147 games, it is the Herd that holds the 74-73 advantage. The Paw Sox, however, come into today's game with a three-game win streak over the Bisons. Buffalo had won 10 of the final 14 contests in 2006.

RED HOT BAT: Franklin Gutierrez has the Bisons longest hit streak of the 2007 season. The outfielder has hit in eight straight heading into today's action with a .405 (15-37) average, three doubles, a home run, three RBI and nine runs scored. Six of the eight games have been multi-hit performances. Gutierrez is currently sixth in the IL with a .356 average.

LUNA TOO: Infielder Hector Luna also has a nice hit streak going. Luna has hit in six straight, with a .364 (8-22) average. During the stretch, he has collected four doubles, two RBI and four runs scored.

RUNNING HERD: The Bisons are tied for second in the International League with 21 steals. At this pace, the Herd would steal 189 bases on the year, more than twice their total from a season ago (80 in 2006, 11th in the IL). Buffalo has only been caught stealing four times for an 84.0% success rate. Ben Francisco leads the Herd with six steals (T4th in the IL).

ANOTHER DAY...: Infielder Ryan Mulhern is the first Bisons player to hit a home run in consecutive games this season. Mulhern hit his third of the season on Tuesday against Syracuse and launched a solo home run in last night's loss. Mulhern leads the Bisons with four home runs (tied for fifth in the International League) and 13RBI (tied for seventh in the IL).

IRON MEN: Infielder Keith Ginter and outfielder Ben Francisco are the only two Bisons to have played in all 16 of the team's games so far this season. The two have combined for 17 runs scored, 14RBI and 23 walks.
