Indianapolis Indians News Release
RICHMOND, Va. -- Indianapolis scored two runs in the seventh and four more in the ninth to post a 7-1 victory over Richmond Tuesday evening at The Diamond.
The Indians improve to 17-16 overall and 9-10 on the road, while the Braves fall to 18-13 on the season and 12-6 at home. The Tribe is now 4-2 on the current road trip with two games remaining.
CF Kevin Thompson gave Indianapolis a lead it would not relinquish with a two-run double to center in the seventh. The Tribe's only extra-base hit of the night extended Thompson's career-best hitting streak to 12 games and his on-base streak to 23 contests.
The Indians added four insurance runs in the ninth. SS Josh Wilson and PH Michel Hernandez came plateward on a Braves error, while Thompson and LF Jorge Cortes scored on C Raul Chavez's two-run single to center.
Chavez (2-for-4, 1 R, 3 RBI), who brought LF Craig Wilson to the dish with a base knock to left in the fourth, recorded the Tribe's only multi-hit effort.
Indianapolis RHP Luis Munoz (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) improved to 2-0 with the win, while RHP Jonah Bayliss (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) was credited with his third hold of the season and RHP Matt Miller (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 SO) notched his first save of the campaign.
LHP Damian Moss (3.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO), the second of four Richmond hurlers, did not allow an earned run but still fell to 1-3 with the loss.
Braves LF Josh Anderson (3-for-5), who brought 3B Wes Timmons plateward with a double to right in the fifth, posted the game's only three-hit effort. 2B Diory Hernandez (2-for-4) also managed a multi-hit performance for Richmond.
The two clubs, which split a 12-game series in 2007, will play six more times over the next 10 days.
The teams continue their four-game series on Wednesday at 7 p.m. RHP Adam Bernero is scheduled to start for Indianapolis, while LHP Jonathon Rouwenhorst is expected to get the nod for Richmond.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.

Post-game quotes -- OF Kevin Thompson
(on his two-run double in the seventh inning)
"The Richmond pitching coach had just made a visit to the mound. I've been around this game long enough to know that usually means the pitcher is going to throw a first-pitch strike. I wanted to be aggressive, but didn't want to do too much. The pitch was over the plate, I squared it up and put us ahead."
(on the performance of Indians C Raul Chavez)
"Raul (Chavez) gave us another big hit in the ninth inning. Raul is a great player, and has really helped this team over the first month of the season."
(on the Indians improving to 4-2 on the current road trip)
"Tonight was a great battle and we came out on top. It's been a good road trip so far. I hope we can keep this momentum going in the final two games of the series. I think all of us are looking forward to getting home."
