SPOKANE, Wash. - The Tri-City Dust Devils avoided the sweep and defeated the Spokane Indians, 7-2, in front of 5,541 witches and wizards at Avista Stadium for Harry Potter Night presented by Pizza Factory, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country, KXLY 920/100.7 FM and Northwest Sizzle.
Friday night's game started almost identically to Thursday's game. After the Dust Devils scored in the first, the Indians responded with a run in the third. Scott Kapers was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Tyler Depreta-Johnson walked and Julio Pablo Martinez dropped down a beautiful bunt for an infield single to load the bases. Diosbel Arias drove in Kapers with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one.
Seth Nordlin (L, 1-1) looked to be settling in after giving up an early run, but he ran into trouble in the fourth. Nordlin surrendered a double and a walk to start the inning. The Indians had an opportunity to limit the damage with a double play but couldn't convert. The missed opportunity left the bases loaded with nobody out. It unraveled from there. When the dust settled, Tri-City pushed across five runs on just two hits in the inning. Nordlin finished the night giving up six runs, three walks and a hit batter in 3.1 innings.
The Indians got a Redband Rally going in the sixth. Diosbel Arias worked a walk and advanced to third on an errant pick-off attempt. He scored on a wild pitch, making it 7-2 Dust Devils. Spokane got two more runners aboard in the inning, but Diomar Lopez came in from the Tri-City bullpen and killed the rally. Spokane would not threaten the rest of the night.
The Indians now hit the road to take on Vancouver in a three-game series.
