Boise Hawks News Release

The Boise Hawks (13-10) won the series opener against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (13-10) at Volcanoes Stadium on Saturday night by a final score of 7-4. Boise is now tied with the Volcanoes for second place in the Northwest League South.

The Hawks broke it open in the 2nd inning off of Salem-Keizer starter Norwith Gudino. After Luke Morgan led the inning off with a double, Daniel Jipping cracked his 4th home run of the season to right field, giving Boise a 2-0 lead.

After Jipping, it was a double for Cade Harris and a single for Hidekel Gonzalez putting runners on the corners for the Hawks. Gonzalez stole second base and it was Matt Hearn with a 2-RBI single to make it 4-0 Boise.

The Hawks didn't stop there. After Hearn's single which allowed him to get to second base on a throw to the plate, Kyle Datres doubled and Boise had a 5-0 advantage. Danny Edgeworth brought home Datres with his 16th RBI of the year on a single to left. The base-hit finished up a six run inning for the Hawks to give them a 6-0 lead.

Salem-Keizer responded in the home half of the 2nd inning off of Hawks starter Miguel Ausua. The lefty gave up three singles before getting an out on a groundball allowing the first run of the game to make it 6-1. With runners on the corners, Mikey Edie singled to make it a 6-2 game.

In the third, it was a solo home run for Salem-Keizer's David Villar making it 6-3 Hawks.

Miguel Ausua gave the Hawks 4 1/3 innings before Mike Bunal came on with the bases load and one out in the 6th for the Volcanoes. Bunal got the first out, but an infield hit for Salem-Keizer from Dalton Combs scored Diego Rincones to make it just a 6-4 Boise lead.

Luke Morgan gave Boise a larger cushion in the 7th when he hit his first professional home run to right-field making it a 7-4 Hawks lead.

Bunal gave the Hawks 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball, while picking up the win. He had three strikeouts, to help the Hawks remain in control at 7-4 going to the 8th.

Hunter Williams threw the 8th inning and worked out of a bases loaded jam to keep Salem-Keizer off the board. Williams has not allowed a run in his 12 innings pitched and has struck out 15 to just one walk.

PJ Poulin got his first save of the season in the 9th inning to get Boise to 13-10 on the year. Boise will play game two of the series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. PST.

The Hawks will return home for a five-game series against the Vancouver Canadians starting on July 11th. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Get your tickets at BoiseHawks.com or call 208-322-5000.
