Indians Break Streak with 10-5 Win in Columbus

Indianapolis Indians News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Indians stopped their brief two-game losing streak in a big way on Saturday night in Columbus as every Indianapolis batter recorded at least one hit and the Tribe beat the division-rival Clippers 10-5 at Huntington Park.
When the dust had settled, every Indianapolis batter had recorded at least one hit and six had put together multi-hit efforts, including a 3-for-6 performance by 1B Jeff Clement and a 3-for-5 effort by RF Brandon Boggs. Boggs also drove in two RBI -- as did 2B Anderson Hernandez -- and scored two runs, along with CF Starling Marte.
A four-run first inning was just the beginning for the Indians, who scored in each of the first four innings of the contest. After a groundout started the game, SS Chase d'Arnaud walked and advanced to second on Marte's single to left. Clement then drove in d'Arnaud with a single to left with Marte advancing to third on the throw home.
With runners on the corners, Boggs singled to center field, driving in Marte and advancing Clement to second base before C Tony Sanchez walked to load the bases. Hernandez then chopped in to an RBI groundout, driving in Clement.
DH Jose Morales followed the groundout with a single to right. Boggs scored from third to put the Indians up 4-0, but Indianapolis perhaps got too greedy and Sanchez was thrown out at the plate by Columbus RF Trevor Crowe to finally end the inning.
The Tribe added a run in the second when CF Jose Tabata drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on d'Aranud's double to left before scoring on an infield single by Marte. Indianapolis then exploded for three more runs in the top of the third inning.
After a groundout to start the frame, Sanchez doubled to left before advancing to third on Hernandez's single. Morales then drew a walk to load the bases before 3B Brian Friday singled to center, driving in Sanchez and Hernandez.
With runners on second and third, Tabata singled to center to drive in Morales for the third run of the inning. At that point, Columbus starter T.J. McFarland (2.1 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 1 K) was pulled from the game. McFarland, who fell to 3-2, set season-lows in innings pitched and strikeouts and a season-high in hits.
Indianapolis added another run in the top of the fourth inning, scoring for the fourth straight frame as Boggs was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by Sanchez before scoring on an infield single by Hernandez. Handed nine early runs of support, Indians starter Justin Wilson (5.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K, 1 HR) settled in a retired 10 straight Clippers to finish his outing.
Wilson only struggled in the bottom of the second inning, when he momentarily lost his control and gave up a trio of runs. After DH Russ Canzler led off the inning with a walk, 3B Jared Goedert launched his eighth home run of the season over the right-center-field fence.
CF Tim Fedroff and C Matt Pagnozzi then drew back-to-back walks before Fedroff advanced to third on a flyout by SS Gregorio Petit and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Crowe. At the time, Columbus had pulled with 5-3 of Indianapolis, but Wilson was eventually able to get out of the inning and his offense provided more than enough cushion for him to earn the win.
The teams combined for three lone scores across the seventh, eighth and ninth to give the contest its final 10-5 score. In the seventh, the Tribe picked up a run on a single by Boggs that drove in Marte and in the eighth, Columbus scored when Fedroff came plateward on a double by SS Gregorio Petit. Finally, in the bottom of the ninth, a hit-by-pitch and two walks loaded the bases with one out before Fedroff singled home 2B Jason Donald, but RHP Evan Meek (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HB) was able to close out the game without further damage.
Indianapolis (56-33) and Columbus (44-45) will wrap up their three-game series with a rubber match on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. The Indians are expected to send undefeated RHP Rick VandenHurk (8-0, 2.96) to the mound while the Clippers will likely counter with LHP David Huff.
The game will be carried on WNDE 1260 AM-WFBQ-HD2, WNDE.com and via iheartradio, a mobile application for iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones with Howard Kellman and Will Flemming on the call. The pre-game show begins at 12:45 p.m.
