LET'S GAIN SOME GROUND: The Rochester Red Wings tonight begin a 3-game series vs. International League North Division leader Lehigh Valley (Phillies). After tonight's opener, the 2 teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow on the final day of action before the All-Star Break. Gametime is 12:05 p.m. and the doubleheader will include two 7-inning games. The Red Wings started the 6-game homestand by winning 2 of 3 against North Division rival Pawtucket (Red Sox).

a The Red Wings open at home after the All-Star Break, hosting Toledo (Tigers) for 4 games next Thursday-Sunday. Toledo is the only team the Red Wings have yet to face in 2012.

RECENT ROSTER NEWS: The Minnesota Twins on Wednesday optioned first baseman Chris Parmelee to Triple-A Rochester. The Twins also promoted right-handed pitcher Samuel Deduno, whose contract was selected yesterday in order to start tonight at Texas. Also for Rochester, righthander Deolis Guerra was placed on the 7-Day Disabled with right shoulder tendinitis and righthander Dan Sattler was transferred from Double-A New Britain.

HELLO, MY NAME IS: The Red Wings have employed the services of 47 players, including 25 pitchers and 22 position players. Righthander Dan Sattler last night became the latest addition to appear in a game for the Red Wings. The 2011 Rochester club had 56 players appear in at least one game, including 28 pitchers.

RED WINGS...FOR THREE!!: The Red Wings have won 2 games in a row and tonight looking for their first winning streak of more than 2 games since a season-best 4-game winning streak June 6-9. The Wings are 12-14 since that 4-game run. Rochester also won a season-high 4 straight games May 3-5.

a The Red Wings are 4-2 in July. They also are 27-24 beginning May 15 after opening the season 14-23. The Wings are 32-21 beginning May 3, playing slightly better than .500 baseball for more than a 3rd of the season.

IMPROVEMENT: At 41-47, the Red Wings are off to their best 88-game start since the 2009 club went 44-44. The 2011 Red Wings were 20 games under .500 at 34-54 at this point last season. The 2010 team, meanwhile, was 26 games under .500 at 31-57 at this time.

HOME IMPROVEMENT: The Red Wings are 29-22 at Frontier Field and are unbeaten in 12 of their 15 series here. That record includes a 4-4 mark as the "road" team against Empire State (Yankees), which is sharing the downtown ballpark this season as PNC Field in Moosic, PA undergoes renovation. Since losing 2 of their first 5 series at Frontier, the Red Wings have lost just one of their last 10 sets along Morrie Silver Way. They dropped 3 of 4 vs. Durham (Rays) June 18-21.

THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY: In 2006, David Ortiz hits his 30th home run, a 2-run shot off Mark Buehrle in the first at the Chicago White Sox, to become the first Red Sox to reach the 30-homer plateau before the All-Star Break.
