Charlotte (NC) - The Charlotte Independence professional soccer team has received defender Brendan McDonough on loan from Major League Soccer (MLS) side, Vancouver Whitecaps FC for the remainder of the USL Championship season. Per the agreement, Vancouver has the right to recall the loan at any point.
A hometown standout, McDonough is an alumni of Charlotte Catholic High School. He spent his junior year in Germany training with lower division sides FT Braunschweig and Eintracht Braunschweig. After claiming three Big East Tournament championships in his four years at Georgetown University, McDonough was selected 35th overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. On March 6th, 2019, the 6-foot-2 defender signed his rookie MLS contract with Whitecaps FC. McDonough made his MLS debut on June 26th in a draw on the road against FC Dallas.
McDonough will be available for selection as the Independence continue in USL Championship action on Friday, August 9th as the team travels to Loudoun United FC. The official watch part will take place at Jack's House Soccer Bar and Event Space (1523 Elizabeth Ave. Suite 120, Charlotte NC, 28204). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
