Reno's Hertzog Voted Championship's Player of the Month
Published on August 8, 2019 under United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - Reno 1868 FC forward Corey Hertzog has been voted the USL Championship's Player of the Month for July after recording four goals as the club recorded four victories to move into the top two of the Western Conference. Hertzog's four tallies moved him into double digits this season, marking the third time in the past four years he has scored at least 10 goals during the Championship's regular season.
A three-time All-League selection in the Championship, Hertzog has led an 1868 FC attack that has continued to fire since the sale of the club's all-time leading scorer, Brian Brown, in July to Albanian Superliga champion FK Partizani. Hertzog's 55 regular-season goals currently rank fourth in the Championship all-time, and he is only four goals from passing his individual single-season best of 14 goals for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in the 2017 season.
Hertzog received 30 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL Championship Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLChampionship.com. The New York Red Bulls II's Jared Stroud finished second on 28 percent after leading his side to an undefeated month with four goals and two assists, while the Tampa Bay Rowdies' Sebastian Guenzatti finished third on 24 percent after registering three goals and two assists for the current Eastern Conference leaders.
