Grafton, Wis. - The Madison Mallards (12-3) extended their ten-game winning streak with a 4-0 victory at Kapco Park against the Lakeshore Chinooks (7-8). Starter Justin Watland (San Jose State), middle reliever Brian Martinez (Connors State), and Tanner Rogen (Oral Roberts) combined for the shutout, yielding only four hits and one walk.

A lead-off triple by Jayce McLean (North Dakota State) and a RBI grounder by Drew Ober (UNC Charlotte) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth.

Turning Point

The Mallards gained some separation in the sixth inning with a two-out rally. With the bases loaded and two outs, Drew Ober delivered a clutch two-strike hit up the middle to make it a 3-0 ballgame. Jake Randa (NW Florida State) knocked in an insurance run in the top of the ninth to make the score 4-0. The Mallards are now 8-0 when leading after seven innings.

- Brian Martinez earned the win with shutout innings in the fifth, sixth and seventh

- Justin Watland gave up only two hits and struck out four in his four innings of work

- Tanner Rogen sealed the victory with scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth to end the game

- Max Hewitt (Oklahoma State) was solid defensively at second base and added two base hits

Next Up

The Mallards return home to Warner Park tomorrow night, Wednesday June 13, and go for their eleventh win in a row in the second game of the series with the Lakeshore Chinooks.
