Idaho Stampede News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Blake Ahearn led the Bakersfield Jam to a 137-116 victory over the Idaho Stampede Friday night in Boise.
Both the Stampede and the Jam came out strong in the first quarter scoring a combined 67 points. The Jam were up by one going into the second quarter 34-33. Bakersfield's Brian Butch scored 10 points in the first as well as the Stampede's Roberto Bergersen and Donell Taylor.
The second quarter battle was similar to the first with the Stampede scoring 29 to the Jam's 28. Keith Brumbaugh came off the bench for the Jam in his first game with the team and contributed six points and three rebounds in the quarter. The Stampede's Emmanuel Jones also came off the bench and gave the Stampede a solid seven points and five boards all in nine minutes of play.
The teams were tied at 62 apiece going into the second half. Taylor came out strong for the Stampede with 14 points and two assists all in the third quarter. Rodney Webb and Reece Gaines led the charge for the Jam scoring ten points apiece. The quarter ended with the Jam up 106 - 91.
"I thought we came out and played better in the first half," said Stampede Head Coach Bob MacKinnon. "It's hard when you are in a constant state of transition, it's hard on the players, coaching staff, and the Franchise. "What we can be proud of is that we have produced several NBA players that have worn Stampede jerseys this season."
Bakersfield was consistent in the fourth and ended the game with six players scoring in double figures including a game high 28 from Ahearn, Will Daniels and Butch with 23, Gaines with 18, Brumbaugh with 15, and Rodney Webb with 12 points.
"I knew Idaho wanted to run, and that we have had similar defensive problems," said Bakersfield's Head Coach Will Voigt. "So I told the team to be aggressive on offense and keep up the tempo."
The Stampede's Bergersen finished the game with a season high 26 points. Taylor finished with 27, Midon Ambres with 20, Jones with 13, and Lance Allred with his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Stampede get another shot to take on the Jam tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Qwest Arena.
