
Idaho Acquires Farrakhan, Johnson

BOISE, Idaho, February 25, 2013 - The Idaho Stampede acquired Mustapha Farrakhan from the Sioux Falls Skyforce and JaJuan Johnson from the Canton Charge today, the team and its NBA affiliate Portland Trail Blazers announced. As part of a four-team trade, Idaho sent Seth Tarver to Sioux Falls. In addition, the Austin Toros receive Sioux Falls' original 3rd round pick in the 2013 NBA D-League Draft, while Canton gets Kyle Weaver from Austin.
Farrakhan (6-4, 181, Virginia, b. 11/2/88) has played two season in the NBA D-League with Bakersfield last season, plus Iowa and Sioux Falls this year. In 66 career games (20 starts), Farrakhan has averaged 8.2 points per game and 2.7 assists per game. Farrakhan was named to the NBA D-League All-Rookie Second Team last year after averaging 9.0 points and 3.4 assists in 39 games (11 starts) with the Bakersfield Jam last season. While at the University of Virginia, Farrakhan averaged 7.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in four seasons (103 games). Born in Harvey, Illinois, Farrakhan attended Thornton Township High School, outside of Chicago. Farrakhan is the grandson of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
Johnson (6-10, 221, Purdue, b. 2/8/1989) was the first overall selection in the 2012 NBA D-League by Fort Wayne before being traded to Canton for Luke Harangody. Johnson has played in 30 games (16 starts) and is averaging 10.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. Originally from Indianapolis, Johnson was honored as the 2011 Big Ten Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and consensus All-American after his senior year at Purdue. Johnson was then drafted 27th overall by the New Jersey Nets in the 2011 NBA Draft. After he was traded to the Boston Celtics, Johnson saw action in 36 games, where he averaged 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds. Johnson was then traded to Houston before being waived in October, 2012.
Tarver (6-5, 215, Oregon State, b. 7/1/88) played the last three seasons with the Stampede after a four-year career at Oregon State, where he won Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. A Portland native, Tarver was invited to Trail Blazers training camp in 2010 and 2011 before working with the Minnesota Timberwolves this past summer. In his D-League career, Tarver has averaged 9.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in 124 games (73 starts).
Farrakhan and Johnson are expected to join the team before Thursday's game at Canton (9 a.m. MST).
