Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- After nine straight games on the road, the Rockford IceHogs returned home to a sold out crowd of 6,436 fans at the Rockford MetroCentre on Friday night. The San Antonio Rampage, however, crashed the IceHogs homecoming, topping Rockford 3-2 in the shootout.

With the IceHogs leading 2-1 mid-way through the third period and on a power play, the Rampage tied with a short-handed marker. Winger Bill Thomas picked up a face-off win from Jon DiSalvatore, skated in on Hogs goalie Corey Crawford on a breakaway and beat him five-hole to tie the score at 1-1 at 11:34.

The game eventually went to a shootout and the Rampage received a pair of goals from Joel Perrault and Keith Yandle while Rockford's Kris Versteeg was the only skater to solve David Aebischer.

Rockford opened the contest's scoring 16:12 into the opening period when winger Troy Brouwer redirected a Cam Barker blast past Aebischer on the power play, putting the IceHogs up 1-0. That lead was short lived because the Rampage responded at 19:01 with an Enver Lisin marker.

The only tally in the second period came courtesy of Versteeg. The Hogs winger picked up a rebound fired off of the stick of Even Brophey and shelved it past Aebischer at 17:48 giving Rockford the 2-1 edge.

Shots were at a premium in regulation as Rockford got just 17 off on Aebischer. Crawford was sharp for Rockford as he turned away 29 San Antonio shots.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Nov. 3 vs. Manitoba Moose. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Moose meet up for a third time this season and first in Rockford. The first 4,000 fans to the game will pick up a long sleeve from Kmart, Dental Dimensions, Rock River Bank, Enchoff Organization and 104.9 FM, WXRX.
