
IceHogs extend home unbeaten streak to nine games

Rockford, Ill.- Taking advantage of power play opportunities proved to be the difference for the Rockford Ice Hogs as they defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 6-2 in front of 5,427 at the Rockford MetroCentre. The Hogs went 3-10 on the power play while the Komets didn't score on any of their four power play opportunities. Fort Wayne struck first despite only suiting up 14 players due to illness and injury situations. Winger P.C. Drouin netted a goal at 3:04 in the first period to give the the Komets an early 1-0 lead. Rockford answered quickly with goals from forwards Chaz Johnson at 6:00 and Jason Ralph at 7:08. Fort Wayne center Mark Smith evened things up at 16:51 sending the teams into the locker room tied up at two.
Rockford's Robin Big Snake added to his reputation of being a very physical player when he got hit with a 10-minute gross misconduct penalty for slashing and attempting to injure. From there it was all Rockford as they outshot the Komets 19-9 in the second frame. Billy Tibbetts sniped home his first goal since joining the Hogs this season at the 12:32 mark. Forward Jason Notermann flipped the puck past Komets goalie Zach Sikich to light the lamp at 19:44.
IceHogs goalie Ronnie Vogel held the Komets scoreless through the final two periods and had 33 saves overall. In the third period Barber rounded out an impressive game adding a goal to his two assists. Defenseman Corey Hessler tallied the final IceHogs goal with Notermann and rookie Yannick Tifu on the assists.
The win moves the IceHogs to 11-2-1 on the season and Fort Wayne drops to 3-6-2. The two clubs meet tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. Next Home Game: Wednesday, Nov. 23 vs. Missouri River Otters.
