Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Rockford IceHogs scored just 48 seconds into the game and never looked back on their way to a 4-0 victory over the Peoria Rivermen Wednesday evening at Carver Arena. Despite six power play opportunities and 35 shots on goal, Peoria was never able to find the back of the net.
In the opening minute, Terry Broadhurst deflected a shot past Mike McKenna for his third goal of the season. Klas Dahlbeck and Ben Youds earned assists on the early goal.
The IceHogs doubled their lead in the second period. Only 4 seconds into a power play, Shawn Lalonde pushed the puck to the left circle, where Jeremy Morin one-timed his 17th goal of the season at 9:20. Brad Mills also was credited with an assist on the play after winning the faceoff.
The Rivermen had four unsuccessful power plays in the second period, including 1:36 of a 5-on-3 advantage. Peoria also outshot Rockford 14-7 in the middle frame.
The third period featured an empty-net goal for Rockford and another score only 15 seconds later. Martin St. Pierre scored his team-leading 18th goal of the year on an empty net at 18:37. Kyle Beach and Jimmy Hayes earned assists on the play. At 18:52, Kenndal McArdle scored his third goal of the year past McKenna that was assisted by Brandon Pirri.
Peoria went 0-for-6 on the power play as Rockford went 1-for-4 on the man advantage. The Rivermen outshot the Heat 35-24 in the game.
The Rivermen continue their six-game homestand against the San Antonio Rampage on Friday at 7:05 p.m. For tickets or more information call 309-676-1040.
