Louisiana IceGators News Release
LAFAYETTE, La.--For the second night in a row, the Louisiana IceGators proved that they could finish a game.
After entering the third period tied and falling behind early in the third, the IceGators scored twice late in the final frame to take a 4-3 victory over the Huntsville Havoc. Adam Stuart led the team with a goal and two assists, while Chris Wilson and Benjamin Rubin each contributed a goal and an assist.
The IceGators will return to action on Friday when they host the Pensacola IceFlyers. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
"I'm happy that we completed the sweep," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "Those four point are huge for us heading into Friday's game against Pensacola.
"I thought we played our worst period of the year in the second, but we answered the bell in the third and pulled out two very big points."
The teams traded goals in the first period.
Huntsville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half of the first period thanks to goals by Justin Cseter and Nick Lazorko. The IceGators responded in the final 10 minutes of the frame with goals from Chris Wilson and Shawn McNeil.
The Havoc regained the lead three minutes into the third period when Lazorko picked up his second goal of the evening.
The IceGators then roared back.
Stuart scored a power play goal with 13:10 remaining in regulation to tie the game. Rubin scored the game-winner with 2:38 left off assists from Stuart and Shawn Skelly.
Omicioli says tonight's performance proves his team has the ability to fight off adversity and close out games.
"The third period was a true gut check period, and the guys stepped up to the challenge, Omicioli said. "I commend them for that. I'm looking forward to a week of practice and then going another round with Pensacola."
