Louisiana IceGators News Release

Beaumont,TX -- Playing their second game in two nights, the Louisiana IceGators faced off against the Texas Wildcatters at Ford Arena. The Wildcatters Tony Lawrence opened the scoring at 3:43, but the Gators did not stay down for long. Dennis Shiryaev scored his tenth of the year to pull the Gators even. Helpers on the first Gators' goal went to Jamie Johnson and Konstatin Kalmikov.

Gators captain Bobby Brown added another goal before the end of the first frame, assisted by Ben Storey and Rod Sarich. The Gators gained a 4-1 lead in the second period on goals from Semir Ben-Amor and Alex Materukhin. Storey and Johnson both earned their second point of the night with assists on Ben-Amor's tally. Storey finished the night with three points after also assisting on Materukhin's eventual game-winner. Bobby Brown earned his second point on the evening with the second assist on Materukhin's goal.

The victory celebration was short-lived, however, when a fight broke out just after the final horn. By the time the melee was over, both benches had emptied and equipment littered the ice. Louisiana had a final total of 114 penalty minutes and six major penalties. Texas tallied 121 penalty minutes and seven majors.

Through three periods of play, Louisiana's Derek Gustafson faced 34 shots on goal, while the Gators showered Texas's Davis Parley with 46 shots. The Gators traveled back to Lafayette after the game, as they will host the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 4:05 pm Sunday at the Cajundome
