Niagara IceDogs News Release

Thursday night hockey at the Gatorade Garden City Complex saw the Niagara IceDogs cruise past the visiting Owen Sound Attack by a score of 7-2. Brendan Perlini and Carter Verhaeghe led the charge for the IceDogs attack with five points each.

The first period of the matchup between the visiting Owen Sound Attack and the IceDogs saw Niagara strike early as Carter Verhaeghe netted the first goal of the game 2 minutes and 40 seconds into the period. Verhaeghe would continue his hot streak barely 2 minutes later, on the powerplay, to give the IceDogs an early 2-0 lead. Owen Sound would continue to face offensive pressure from the IceDogs as just past the halfway point in the period Brendan Perlini would net his first goal of the game, giving the IceDogs a 3-0 lead. The IceDogs would hold onto their 3 goal lead heading into the intermission. The shot total at the end of the period was 10-8 for the IceDogs.

The second period of play saw an undeterred Owen Sound team battling hard. Unfortunately, halfway through the second period, Owen Sound's tenacity would pay off and they would net their first goal of the game to make it 3-1. Unfazed, the IceDogs would increase their intensity and Brendan Perlini would score two quick goals to get the hat trick and stretch Niagara's lead to 5-1. The second period would end with Niagara holding on to that 5-1 lead. Shots on goal favoured Niagara 25-17.

The IceDogs struck early in the last period of play. Before the 5 minute mark, Jordan Maletta and Graham Knott would take turns burying the puck to increase the IceDogs lead to 7-1. The IceDogs would maintain their six goal lead for the majority of an intense third period before Owen Sound would sneak one in with less than a minute to play to make it a 7-2 final. The final shot total was 34-32 for visiting Attack.

The Niagara IceDogs will hit the road on Monday to face North Bay for a Thanksgiving Monday afternoon matchup before returning to the Jack on Thursday, October 17th to host the visiting Ottawa 67's. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
