Plymouth Whalers Get in the Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness on October 26
October 10, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Plymouth Whalers News Release
PLYMOUTH - The primary colors of the Plymouth Whalers are blue, white and green, with a little bit of black.
But the Ontario Hockey League team will change its' color scheme on Saturday, October 26 at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena against the Sarnia Sting for a special cause.
The Whalers will be sporting specially designed pink jerseys in the team's annual Pink Out! for breast cancer awareness.
The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game, with the proceeds donated to Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit.
The Whalers Pink Out! For Breast Cancer Awareness started in 2008 and continues to have a positive impact every season. In 2011, the Whalers received the Philanthropy Award for an Organization by the Karmanos Cancer Institute in its annual Heroes of Breast Cancer Awards.
Although the Whalers are just as intense and competitive on the ice against their opponents during the Pink Out! game, there's a different, heartfelt feeling in the crowd attending the game at Compuware Arena. And the Plymouth players - cheerfully helpful in public - will be front-and-center, literally giving the jerseys off their backs after the game in the auction for the Karmanos Cancer Institute.
For more information about the jersey auction, please call Compuware Arena at (734) 453-8400 or go online to www.plymouthwhalers.com.
Plymouth's annual Pink Out! completes the team's first Friday and Saturday weekend of home games at Compuware Arena for the 2013-14 season. On Friday, October 25, the Whalers host Owen Sound in Plymouth's annual Trick-or-Treat night. Ghosts and goblins of all ages are encouraged to come out to Compuware Arena - dressed in their costumes - for Halloween fun.
The next night, the Whalers' goal will be to put the sting on Sarnia, while continuing to raise breast cancer awareness.
