March 17, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs defeated the OHL Eastern Conference first place Kingston Frontenacs Thursday night in a hard fought battle, by a score of 5-4.
The Dogs got off to a slower start than usual as they fell behind 2-0 early in the first. Anthony DiFruscia would get the team back on the board with a power play goal, but the Dogs would trail 3-1 after the first. Kingston had the lead in shots by a tally of 13-8.
The second frame fared much better for the IceDogs as Pavel Jenys scored with a beautiful wrist shot on the power play to bring the Dogs back within one goal. Brendan Perlini then got on the board when he wired a slap shot off the post and in to tie the contest up at 3-3 before the end of the period. The Dogs outshot Kingston in the period 15-7.
The Dogs came out firing in the third period, with a ton of momentum. Josh Ho-Sang got the team their first lead of the game by putting home a rebound and then Blake Siebenaler got the Dogs another goal on the power play to go up 5-3. Kingston would manage to score a late goal but that was as close as they could get as the Dogs shut the Frontenacs offence down with numerous blocked shots and great goaltending from Alex Nedeljkovic.
The IceDogs will be back at home Saturday night for their final regular season home game of the year before the playoffs. Be sure to come out and support the Dogs in their important game against the Peterborough Petes. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs' ticketing locations. The IceDogs are also holding a live auction after Saturday's matchup for the special St.Patrick's Day jerseys the team wore in tonight's contest. Fans can congregate in section 105 after the game for a shot at these limited jerseys.
