Erie Otters News Release
Alex DeBrincat became the first Erie Otter player to record two 50-goal seasons and logged his 200th career point in the win against the Owen Sound Attack. Devin Williams picked up his 40th win of the season to push the Otters back into the first spot in the Western Conference.
Dylan Strome ignited the scoring for the Otters in the opening period when he redirected a shot from Travis Dermott. Minutes later, Dermott lofted a pass for an open Nick Betz who powered by an Attack defender and then slipped the puck by Daniel Dekoning to put Erie up two. Less than 60 seconds later Jake Marchment ripped a backhander past Dekoning to elevate the lead to three. Owen Sound head coach Ryan McGill wasted no time a quickly replace Dekoning with Michael McNiven.
Over five minutes into the second period Nick Suzuki wheeled into the slot and backhanded a shot past Williams to get the Attack on the board. Damir Sharipzyanov cut Erie's lead to one at the midway point of the period when he attempted a pass that tipped of an Otters skate and snuck into the net. Following a hit on Jakob Mayenschein that resulted in an Erie man advantage, Marchment collected his second of the game on a feed from DeBrincat.
Nearly 10 minutes into the final frame Dermott unloaded a wrist shot from the point that cleared McNivens shoulder to put the Otters ahead 5-2. Over a minute later DeBrincat record his 50th goal of the season off of a snap shot that sizzled by the Attack goaltender.
The Otters play the second game of their three-in-three tomorrow when they ship up to London to play the knights at 7:30.
