North Bay Battalion News Release

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Mike Amadio of the North Bay Battalion finished atop four categories and was second in three more when the Ontario Hockey League announced results of its Coaches Poll on Thursday.

Kyle Wood won the hardest shot category, and Mathew Santos, Cam Dineen and Jake Smith also recorded top-three finishes in Eastern Conference voting.

Amadio, whose seven top-three finishes were unmatched in the league, was chosen as the smartest player, best shot and best defensive forward, in addition to tying for hardest worker.

Conference coaches considered one nominee from each team and cast ballots on a 5-3-1 points basis. No coach could vote for a player on his own team, making 45 points the maximum attainable in any of the 20 categories.

Amadio received 32 points in the smartest player category, 35 for best shot and 32 for best defensive forward. He and Michael McLeod of the Mississauga Steelheads each received 24 points in voting for hardest worker.

Amadio was second in the best penalty killer category with 25 points, just behind Kevin Labanc of the Barrie Colts with 26. The Battalion captain had 24 points for most dangerous in the goal area, tied for second with Labanc behind the Kingston Frontenacs' Spencer Watson at 35.

Amadio was second in voting for best on faceoffs with 24 points. Jordan Maletta of the Niagara IceDogs had 38.

Wood amassed 41 points in the hardest shot category after a second-place finish last season.

Santos was second in the most improved player voting with 18 points, behind Jeremy Helvig of Kingston with 30.

Dineen finished third with 17 points in the best offensive defenceman category. Barrie's Rasmus Andersson led with 31 points, and Mitchell Vande Sompel of the Oshawa Generals had 23.

Smith finished third in voting for best puckhandling goalie with 18 points. Mackenzie Blackwood of Barrie and Niagara's Alex Nedeljkovic tied with 21 points apiece. Smith finished second in the category in each of the last two seasons.
