Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs won their second straight Thursday night, defeating the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, by a score of 4-1.

The Niagara IceDogs came out with a strong start on Thursday evening with Brendan Perlini opening the scoring just 2:33 into the contest, when he snapped a quick wrist shot from far out that fooled the Greyhound's goaltender on the glove side. The IceDogs were strong defensively in the period limiting the opposition to only five shots on goal. Niagara goalie Brent Moran kept the visitors off the board with a huge glove save on a Greyhound's 2-on-1, in the midst of the period. The IceDogs would finish the period with a few major shot blocks on the penalty kill to keep their 1-0 lead heading into the intermission. They mustered up eight shots on goal in the frame, leading the shot clock, 8-5.

The second period had a bit more action as the game started to open up offensively, but Moran was there to shut the door against the opponents, making some key saves on high quality scoring chances. Blake Siebenaler would then put the IceDogs up 2-0 with a nicely placed slapshot, to the blocker side of the Greyhounds' goalie. The shots on goal in the period favoured the Greyhounds, 11-10.

The Greyhounds would find their way on the board in the third, scoring off of a scramble in front, a play that Moran had no chance on, cutting the IceDogs lead to 2-1. The IceDogs would answer quickly however, with Anthony DiFruscia finishing off a beautiful feed on a 2-on-1 from Christopher Paquette, to reclaim their two goal advantage. The Greyhounds would put on a solid amount of pressure in the period, but they couldn't find a way to solve Moran, who stood strong in the crease after playing 105:56 minutes of shutout hockey. Josh Ho-Sang would put the game out of reach in the final minutes, burying the puck into the empty net to make it a 4-1 final. The shots on goal in the frame were 17-8 in the Sault's favour giving them a 33-26 advantage on the night.

Brent Moran, Christopher Paquette and Blake Siebenaler were named the three stars of the contest, all playing major factors in the IceDogs' win. Moran would finish the evening with 32 saves, while Paquette had two assists and Siebenaler scored the game winning goal for the IceDogs.

The IceDogs will be back at home tomorrow to face off against the North Bay Battalion at 7:00PM in their annual Teddy Bear Toss game! Tickets are still available for this, and all other IceDogs' home games and can be purchased at all IceDogs' ticketing locations!
