Niagara IceDogs News Release
Your Niagara IceDogs were on the road Saturday night to play this Sting for the final time this season. The 'Dogs faced Sarnia two weeks ago, at home, where they completed a 5-goal come from behind overtime win. The Sting came into this game having won 4 of their past 5 games, while the 'Dogs were looking to turn their luck around.
The Sting got on the scoreboard first early in the game to carry a 1-0 lead. The 'Dogs spent much of the period in their own zone, but strong defensive plays and timely saves from Dhillon maintained the score at a 1-goal deficit heading into the intermission.
In the second period, the Sting scored two quick goals in the second half to extend their lead to 3. At the other end of the rink, Justin Fazio shut the door to stump the 'Dogs, despite the pressure they applied. Sarnia carried a 3-0 lead into the 3^rd period.
In the first minute of the third, Captain Johnny Corneil got the 'Dogs on the board burying a great pass from Drew Hunter! Sam Miletic was credited with the secondary assist. Minutes later, the IceDogs found themselves on a 5 on 3 powerplay. Danial Singer capitalized to score his 12^th powerplay goal on the season to cut the Sting lead to 1! Akil Thomas and Sam Miletic picked up the assists on Singers' 23^rd of the season. The 'Dogs were sent to another 5 on 3 powerplay, and Danial Singer worked his magic again. Singer's 2^nd of the period was assisted by Ben Jones and Kirill Makismov. Kyrou scored immediately after to regain the lead. In the final minute of regulation, with an empty net, Danial Singer scored his hat trick goal to send us to overtime!
In overtime, Dhillon made a big save on a Jonathan Ang penalty shot in overtime to keep the game going. In the final minute, the Sting were given a 4 on 3 powerplay, where Cam Dineen capitalized on a near open net.
The IceDogs picked up an important point tonight in a 5-4 loss.
