Niagara IceDogs News Release

A three goal outburst in the third period from the Mississauga Steelheads handed the Niagara IceDogs their third straight loss to start the season.

It would take almost the entire first period for the game to get its first goal but at the 19:57 mark, while killing a penalty, Anthony DiFruscia wired a shot off the post and in for his first goal of the season to give the IceDogs the lead after one.

The Steelheads answered early in the second period when Austin Gerhart found himself in alone on a breakaway. He lost the handle on the puck but his pass back out front was deflected in by Jason Smith. The IceDogs peppered Steelheads goaltender Spencer Martin but couldn't solve the netminder for a second time before the end of the middle frame.

On an early power play in the third, the Steelheads Stefan LeBlanc scored to take the lead. Moran immediately went to the referee because he felt he was bumped on the play, but after talking it over, the referees deemed it was a good goal.

After that, the floodgates opened. Nathan Bastian and Lucas Venuto scored for the Steelheads, while Vince Dunn got his first of the season for the IceDogs. Blake Siebenaler would add another one with five seconds left in the game, but it wasn't enough as the IceDogs fell to 0-3-0-0 on the season.

The IceDogs have the weekend off before travelling to Ottawa, Belleville and Kingston next weekend.
