IceDogs Fall to Rangers 4-3 in a Pre-Season Shootout
September 14, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs played their second consecutive pre-season game tonight as they hit the road and visited the Kitchener Rangers, following a 3-1 win in Barrie last night.
The 'Dogs were without Ben Jones, Akil Thomas, Ivan Lodnia, Daniel Bukac, and Kirill Maksimov, who have been named to their respective NHL teams' training camp rosters.
In the first period, the IceDogs picked up right where they left off last night. Oliver Castleman opened the scoring with his 2nd goal in as many nights, just as a powerplay expired. Billy Constantinou and Lleyton Moore picked up the assists. Nearing the midway point of the first, goaltender Jukka Schotter made a collection of great saves to keep the game at 1-0. Then, Ian Martin scored his first goal of the pre-season with about 3 minutes remaining in the period to double the IceDogs' lead. Rookie forward AJ Cook collected the lone assist on Martin's goal.
Early in the second period, the Rangers cut our lead to 1. Mid-way through the second, Matthew Philip got in on the fun and scored on his own rebound to re-gain the 2-goal lead. Billy Constantinou picked up his 2nd assist of the night, and Johnathon Schaefer was credited with the secondary assist. The Rangers scored two quick goals in the 2nd period to tie the game at 3.
The third period solved nothing, so we headed to a shootout. The Rangers scored twice to take this one 4-3 in a shootout.
We're back in action in the Niagara Region tomorrow, Saturday, September 15th at the Fleming Centre in Beamsville to take on the Kitchener Rangers. Tickets to our final home pre-season game can be purchased here .
