Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs fell to the visiting Erie Otters by a score of 4-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 3,145 at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Thursday night.

The IceDogs would kill off a pair of penalties to start the game before Shayne Rover would break the scoreless tie at the midway point of the period, blasting one home to give the IceDogs a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately the lead would not last as Erie would answer right back to tie the game up at 1-1. That would prove to be it for scoring in the period as the teams headed into the first intermission deadlocked at 1-1. The shot count at the end of the frame would also be knotted up at 12-12.

The second period would see the IceDogs fall behind early in the frame as Erie would score to take a 2-1 lead. The teams would exchange chances throughout much of the period until Erie would score again to extend their lead to 3-1. The IceDogs would not let up however and bring the score within one as Steven Shipley would tip home a Luke Mercer point shot with just 2:48 left in the 2nd period to make it 3-2 headed into the intermission. The shot total after two was 32-22 in favour of Niagara.

The third period would see the IceDogs continue to pressure Erie starter Devin Williams for the equalizer, but they would be unable to beat Williams and Erie would add a power play marker to make it a 4-2 final.

The IceDogs will now have a night off on Friday before returning to action on Saturday night when they host the Sudbury Wolves in their annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Great seats are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
