Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Erie Otters took a 4-2 victory over the Niagara IceDogs Wednesday night in Erie, PA.
The scoring was opened by Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Greg McKegg at the 7:32 mark of the first as he picked up is 26th goal of the year, beating Dalton McGrath.
The tally would be the lone marker in the first frame, and Erie would take a 1-0 lead after the first period of play.
The second period suffered a scoring drought for the majority, but Freddie Hamilton managed to put one past Ramis Sadikov with just 1:42 left to notch his 16th goal of the season with the assists going to Darren Archibald and Ryan Strome.
The game would hold a 1-1 score after 40 minutes of play.
Otters' leading scorer Greg McKegg would strike again just past the five minute mark of the third to put Erie ahead 2-1 with the help of Brett Cook and Shawn Szydlowski.
The lead would last long as Ryan Strome picked up his second point of the game with a beautiful goal just two minutes later from Darren Archibald to tie the game once again - this time with a 2-2 score.
Rookie defenseman Luke Mercer took a holding penalty at the 14:50 mark of the third, and Shawn Szydlowski scored his 19th goal of the season on the power play to regain the Otters' lead.
David Broll followed up with a late-period goal to increase their lead to 4-2, pushing the Otters past the IceDogs in front of a home crowd Wednesday night.
The IceDogs will return home to host the Belleville Bulls Thursday, January 6 at 7 p.m. at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. Tickets for this game are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing locations.
