Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs have opened their exhibition season by defeating the Erie Otters 2-0 tonight in Erie. Mitch Bennett and David Pacan scored for the 'Dogs while Mark Visentin and Michael Gallardi combined for the shutout.

An even first period including two power play opportunities for the Otters, but Visentin and the IceDogs penalty kill were able to shut the door on the Otters man advantage. Erie outshot the IceDogs, 11-10, after a scoreless first 20 minutes.

Erie was unable to capitalize on a power play early in the second period, before the IceDogs broke the ice with the eventual game-winning goal on a man advantage of their own, as Mitch Bennett fired a one-timer pass from Strome into the net at 7:35.

Chris Festarini played the first half of the contest for Erie, making 17 saves on 18 shots. Visentin picked up where he left off, stopping all 14 shots he faced in his half of the game.

There would be no scoring for the remainder of the second, but a fight broke out nearly three minutes into the third as Erie's Johnny McGuire took on the IceDogs Adam Desautels. After a spirited bout, each player was ejected from the game, a preseason rule.

The scoreline held until the 15:28 mark, as David Pacan added insurance for the IceDogs with a tap-in at the glove side of Tyson Teichmann, who made his first appearance in an Otters uniform.

In a solid preseason debut for Gallardi, the second year IceDog goaltender posted a perfect stat line stopping all 12 shots he faced to finish off the combined shut out.

Shots were even at 26 for each team, as the IceDogs were one-for-two on the power play, while Erie was unsuccessful on six power plays.

The IceDogs next return to action next Saturday, September 10th at 7pm as they host the Oshawa Generals at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.

Tickets for the IceDogs exhibition home games are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for youth/seniors and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticket outlets.

In addition to exhibition tickets, single game tickets, flex packs and season tickets are also still available. For more information on all IceDogs ticketing options please contact the IceDogs office at 905-687-3641.
