Saginaw Spirit News Release
The Saginaw Spirit will now move forward into the team's exhibition game schedule after wrapping up this year's training camp at the Dow Event Center highlighted by three very competitive scrimmages. The team has now pared down this year's roster with the release of 11 players following the final game. Team White emerged as the winning side taking two of three games, and now the Spirit will focus on a week's worth of practice time before opening a home and home set with the Sarnia Sting on Friday night at the RBC Center. The Spirit will host the Sting at the Dow Event Center at 7:11 on Saturday, September 10 with all tickets available for 7 dollars.
Game 1 Team White 8 Team Blue 4
Team White got a 3 goal 1 assist outing from veteran Garret Ross to help pace the attack in the win. Ross, who was a stalwart throughout the scrimmages, will be attending the Rookie Camp of the Washington Capitals. The winning side also got a three point effort out of overage candidate Sloan Stewart who had 2 goals and an assist, and Anthony Camara (Boston 2011) chipped in with three assists in the victory. John McFarland (Florida 2010) and Brandon Saad (Chicago 2011) each had two points for Team Blue.
Game 2 Team Blue 11 Team White 3
A few of the usual suspects in terms of point production and a newcomer to the Spirit roster all enjoyed productive games as Team Blue earned the victory in game two. Josh Shalla (Nashville 2011) led the way for Team Blue with a goal and 5 assists in the victory, while Brandon Saad fired 4 goals, and Vince Trocheck (Florida 2011) pitched in with a goal and 4 assists. First year forward Sam Povorozniouk also contributed a solid effort in the contest netting 3 goals for Team Blue. Justin Kea, who also enjoyed a very good camp, had 2 assists for Team White in the loss.
Game 3 Team White 7 Team Blue 6
The mini tournament came down to the rubber match and Anthony Camara scored what proved to be the winner as Team White took the final game by a goal. The winners also got a 3 goal performance by Justin Kea, as Team Blue sent out the extra attacker in the dying seconds of the game but failed to get the equalizer. Freshman forward Jimmy Lodge scored 2 goals in the loss while John McFarland had an assist on both Lodge goals.
