The IceDogs returned to road action Saturday night in Erie, facing the Otters for the fifth time this season. Tonight's game marked the return of Jacob Paquette to the IceDogs line-up from injury.
The Otters opened the score less than a minute into the game, but Drew Hunter evened the score just over a minute later! Philip Tomasino got the puck over to Akil Thomas who beat the Erie defenceman around the net and found Hunter pinching low in the offensive zone. Hunter scored bar-down over a sprawling goaltender to even the score at 1. The IceDogs continued to carry much of the play in the period, forcing the Otters goaltender to make difficult saves in tight. The 1-1 score carried into the 2nd period.
In the middle 20, the 'Dogs came out to PLAY, with goals from Philip Tomasino, Akil Thomas, Matthew Philip and Jason Robertson. All goals were scored over a 4 minute span. Despite holding a 4-goal lead over the Otters, Niagara continued to give them all they could handle totalling 14 shots in the period, while the Otters only registered 5.
The IceDogs added another 3 goals in the third period by Oliver Castleman, Ben Jones and Kyen Sopa to take this one by a score of 8-1! This win brought the IceDogs back into the win column, building confidence heading into tomorrow afternoon's home game against the Sudbury Wolves, in a rematch from last Sunday's loss.
Tomorrow's game is dedicated towards mental health in youth, the game is presented by the Canadian Mental Health Association, Niagara Branch, and Teachers Life. There will be a post-game family skate, presented by Tim Hortons, offering free hot chocolate! Helmets and skates must be checked at ice-level before the game. Children under 14 must wear a helmet.
