Attack Fall to Firebirds in OT, 3-2

February 16, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Attack visited Flint tonight hoping to rebound from a tough loss in Saginaw the night before. Team spirit remained high with players and staff dressing up in 'Tropical' shirts to honour Flint Tropics night at the Dort Federal Event Center. Owen Sound came into the game 5th place in the Western Conference while the Firebirds are in 10th.

This evening's game started out much better for the Bears, with Trent Bourque opening the scoring just 25 seconds in with his 4th of the season, an unassisted effort by the overage defenseman. Both teams were playing a wide-open game in the 1st period, with multiple odd man rushes for both teams and power play opportunities abound. Mack Guzda was solid in net and helped the Attack kill off both Flint man advantages, making 10 saves in the period. Kaleb Pearson tipped a Trent Bourque shot on Owen Sound's only power play chance of the period and the Attack would head to the first intermission ahead 2-0.

Flint would respond to Owen Sound's strong 1st period by bouncing back in the 2nd. Ethan Keppen scored his 25th of the year just over a minute into the period and Flint were back in it. Owen Sound's special teams continued their effectiveness in the frame and they killed off two additional Firebirds power plays. Neither team scored after Flint's opener, but there were plenty of chances for both sides. Flint would extend their lead in shots, 23-18, but the Attack would head to the locker room up 2-1.

The Attack had twenty minutes to seal up two points against Flint. All they had to do was hold off a Firebirds team that was pushing for the tying goal with plenty of speed. Eric Uba found the tying marker 8:16 into the period and it became a 2-2 game. Owen Sound continued to hold off the push from the Flint forwards but couldn't find their own chances to get another puck past former Owen Sound netminder Emmanuel Vella. Regulation would end with the score tied 2-2.

Seconds into overtime, Flint won the faceoff, kept possession of the puck and Jake Durham found the back of the net for his 34th of the season and the game winner. The Mac Taylor Corporation three stars of the game were Eric Uba, Trent Bourque, and Jake Durham. The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Cade Robinson.

The Owen Sound Attack return to action Monday afternoon against the Windsor Spitfires.
