IceDogs Blank Spitfires 3-0
November 22, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs finished off their weekend with a convincing 3-0 road victory over the Windsor Spitfires.
The first period tested both clubs' special teams as there were seven penalties called. The IceDogs capitalized on one of their powerplay opportunities as captain Anthony DiFruscia opened the scoring on a pass from Graham Knott. Niagara penalty kill was a perfect 4/4 through 20 minutes of play.
Both teams traded scoring chances in the second period, but were unable to beat either goaltender until the last minute of play when Josh Ho-Sang picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone and skated a full lap before finding Vince Dunn in the slot to extend the lead to 2-0 after two periods.
The parade to the penalty box continued in the third period and the IceDogs were able to take advantage yet again as Vince Dunn scored his second goal of the game to give Niagara a three goal cushion. Dunn's eight goals lead all OHL defencemen and his 20 points are second best.
Brent Moran was solid in net, stopping all 23 shots he faced to pick up his first shutout of the season.
The IceDogs will return to St. Catharines to host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Thursday night at 7:00pm and the North Bay Battalion on Friday at 7:00pm before heading back out on the road to play the Barrie Colts on Saturday at 7:30pm. Friday night's home game is the annual Teddy Bear Toss in support of Victim Services Niagara. Bring your new or gently used stuffed animals to the game and get ready to throw them on the ice after the IceDogs score their first goal of the game.
Tickets for all IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location.
