WORCESTER, MA -The Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced several transactions between the IceCats National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the St. Louis Blues, and Worcester.
Defenseman Mike Van Ryn has been loaned to the IceCats by the St. Louis Blues. The 6'1", 190 pound Van Ryn has appeared in 20 games for the Blues this season, recording three assists and eight penalty minutes. A native of London, Ontario, he was a member of the Worcester IceCats for 37 games during the 2000-2001 season and for 24 during the 2001-2002 season. A member of the 2000-01 AHL Regular Season Championship team with a franchise best 108 points, his IceCats totals reflect five goals, 17 assists and 29 penalty minutes. The Blues free agent signing has skated in 69 total NHL regular season games with St. Louis, tallying two goals, 11 assists and 26 penalty minutes. He was a member of the 1998 NCAA National Championship team at the University of Michigan.
Goaltender Brent Johnson was recalled from his conditioning stint with the IceCats. The Farmington, Michigan native appeared in two games over the weekend, compiling a 0-1-1 record with a 3.84 goals against average and a .880 save percentage. In 151 career games with Worcester, the former 1995 draft pick of Colorado has a record of 60-65-17, including five shutouts. As a member of the NHL's St. Louis Blues, Johnson has appeared in 95 contests, racking up a record of 56-31-6 while posting a 2.15 GAA and a .910 save percentage. Nine of his NHL victories have come via the shutout.
Defenseman Tom Koivisto was recalled from loan by St. Louis. He skated in seven games for the IceCats, posting one goal and four penalty minutes. Prior to his assignment to Worcester, the native of Turku, Finland played in 15 games with the Blues, recording two goals and four assists.
Also on Monday, the St. Louis Blues reassigned Cody Rudkowsky to the Trenton Titans of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
Worcester is on the road for four straight games starting Wednesday in Chicago. The 'Cats return home to the Centrum Centre on Wednesday, December 18th with a 7:05 game against the St. John's Maple Leafs.
