
Moose Complete Successful Road Trip

Manitoba Moose News Release
Last week, the Moose captured six out of eight points on their recent four-game road trip. The team started the trip with a 3-1 loss to Hartford before rattling off three consecutive road wins in Bridgeport (4-0W), Springfield (3-2W) and Worcester (5-2W). This week Manitoba comes home for the rest of December with a eight-game homestand. The club will host Manchester on Wednesday and Friday and then Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday. Manitoba remains in second spot in the Canadian Division with 29 points.
Last week: Wednesday, Dec. 4 - Manitoba 1 vs. Hartford 3: In the first, Hartford started the scoring with a power play tally from John Tripp. The Moose responded quickly with their own power play goal. Jeff Farkas fired his first goal since Oct. 18. It was his fourth of the season and Bryan Helmer and Ryan Ready assisted on the play. After one, 1-1. There was no scoring in the second but both teams had chances on three separate power play opportunities in the period. In the third, the hosts notched the eventual game-winner early in the frame. Richard Lintner scored his third and Tripp ended his three-point night with his second marker of the match at the 14 minute mark. The final score, Hartford 3-1. The Moose lost their third straight game for the first time this season. Tyler Moss made 31 saves in the losing cause.
Friday, Dec. 6 - Manitoba 4 vs. Bridgeport 0: Alex Auld was spectacular in the first, holding the Sound Tigers off the board, while the Moose fired the first goal of the game. Nolan Baumgartner had his third of the season and Manitoba led 1-0 after one. In the second, Bridgeport was continually thwarted by Auld and the visitors capitalized on a power play opportunity early in the frame. Jeff Farkas notched his second goal in consecutive games and the Moose led 2-0 after the second. In the final frame, Brandon Reid scored a pair of markers. One was on the power play while the second was an unassisted play. He now increased his goal total to seven on the season. Auld played solidly throughout the whole game and captured his second professional shutout with a 30 save performance in the 4-0 win.
Saturday, Dec. 7 - Manitoba 3 vs. Springfield 2: In the first, Springfield started strong but Manitoba was equal to the task with goalie Tyler Moss making some outstanding saves to keep the score at 0-0. The visitors notched the first goal of the game when Jeff Farkas blasted his third goal in as many games. Ryan Ready contributed his 12th on the power play. This was also his team-high eighth power play tally of the season. After one, Manitoba 2-0. In the second, Springfield responded with two quick goals only a minute apart to tie the score. After two, 2-2. In the third, Moose fan favourite Jimmy Roy blasted the game-winner at the halfway point of the period. Ready assisted for his third point of the match. The hosts could not answer and Manitoba skated to a 3-2 road victory.
Sunday, Dec. 8 - Manitoba 5 vs. Worcester 2: In the first, Worcester tried to capitalize on some chances but Moose goalie Alex Auld stoned them. Manitoba began to find their skating legs and popped two quick goals only 40 seconds apart. Pat Kavanagh had his third and Tyler Bouck registered his fourth for a 2-0 first period lead. In the second. Jeff Farkas continued his amazing road trip with his fourth goal in as many games. Worcester finally found the back of the net with two late goals only 30 second apart. This ended Auld's scoreless streak at 111:08 - sixth longest in franchise history. After two, 3-2 Manitoba. In the third, Farkas added his second of the game while Jason King salted the game away with his ninth. Manitoba took their third straight road win (most so far this season) with a 5-2 victory.

Monarchs Watch: Manchester is coming into Winnipeg earning at least one point in five of their last six road contests (1 OTW, 2 OTL, 2 T). Last week's they rallied for a 4-3 OTW in Hamilton, a 4-3 OTL at Albany, 5-1 home win against Providence and 3-1 road loss to Lowell. The Monarchs stands in first spot in the North Division with 35 points, good for third best in the Eastern Conference. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams. Manchester is an impressive 7-1-2-2 on the road so far this season. Manchester are led by Steve Kelly (11g, 15a) with 26 points, good for a tie for 12th in the league. He has the team lead in goals and just had his personal point streak snapped at six games. Joe Corvo leads the club with 18 assists and has the league's most points for a defenceman at 25. Jared Aulin (6g, 13a) is seventh in AHL rookie scoring with 19 points. Goalie Cristobal Huet leads the team with a 2.32 Avg. which is 11th best in the AHL. Huet has a team-lead with nine wins. The Monarchs has the league's best power play at 24.2 % (39/161). They have the league's eighth best penalty kill at 85.1 % (22/148). Manchester has the fourth best goals for per game at 3.60 (25gp/90g) in the AHL. They have fired the second most shots per game at 33.56 (25gp/839s).

Griffins Watch: Grand Rapids went 1-3 last week. They started the week with a 5-3 road loss to San Antonio, 3-2 road loss to Houston on Wed., 3-2 home loss to Utah on Fri. and a 3-2 road win against Utah on Sat. The Griffins hold down the top spot in the Central Division with 32 points, good for a third place tie in the Western Conference. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two squads with Grand Rapids winning 4-0 at home on Nov. 12. The Griffins are 6-2-1-2 on the road going into this week's action. The club is led by Mark Mowers (9g, 18a) with 27 points, good for a tie for ninth in the league. Mowers leads the team in goals while Michel Picard has the team lead with 11 markers. David Van Drunen has the league's second best plus/minus at +16. Netminder Marc Lamothe has the AHL's fourth best Avg. at 2.07 and is tied for the league lead with 10 wins. Lamothe is fifth in minutes played with 1101 and fourth in the league with .927 Save Pct. The Griffins hold the second best goals against per game at 2.36 (25gp/59g) and the fourth AHL best shots against per game at 28.00 (25gp/700s).
Moose Notes:
- The Moose went on a season-high three game road winning streak. The three game winning streak matches the longest winning streak this season (Oct. 11-14 and Nov. 3-9)
- For the third consecutive game, the Moose went into an opponent's building and stopped their impressive unbeaten streak. The club snapped Worcester's five-game unbeaten streak, Springfield's six-game home unbeaten streak on Sat. and halted Bridgeport's 11-game home unbeaten streak on Fri.
-Jeff Farkas notched five goals over the quick four-game road trip last week. He now has extended his personal scoring streak to four games (which ties the team-high this season) and has scored in all four Moose games in Dec. Farkas has eight goals and nine assists for 17 points, good for a fourth place tie in team scoring.
- Jimmy Roy had a game-winning goal and an assist on Sat. versus Springfield. He has scored 67 goals as a Moose which now places him in a second place tie with former assistant coach Scott Arniel (1996-99). Roy needs seven tallies to tie Greg Pankewicz (1996-98) for the franchise all-time goal lead at 74. The Moose fan favourite has 141 career Moose points and is only one back of sixth place Pankewicz in this category.
- Goaltender Alex Auld played two of the four road games last week and earned stars and victories in both contests. On Friday, he captured his second professional shutout in his career (both with the Moose) with a 30 save shutout game against Bridgeport. On Sunday, he stopped a season-high 35 shots in the 5-2 win over Worcester. Auld had a 111:08 scoreless streak - the sixth longest in franchise history.
- Ryan Ready had six points (1g, 5a) last week. He vaults into a tie for fifth in league scoring with 28 points. Ready had three points against Springfield on Sat. This was the second time Ready scored three points in a game this season (last time Nov. 3: 3g). Ready now stands with 49 goals in his AHL/IHL career.
- Brandon Reid had his sixth multi-point game of the season with two goals against Bridgeport on Fri. Fedor Fedorov added two assists in the contest for 11 points with the Moose.
- Jason King scored on Sunday to increase his goal total to nine, which is tied for third most among AHL rookies. King is tied for the fifth best shooting percentage by an AHL rookie at .196 (9g/46s).
- Justin Kurtz (4g, 12a) had two assists last week and leads Moose defenceman with 16 points. He now sits in 13th spot among AHL defenceman scoring.
- Tyler Moss made 29 saves to earn second star against Springfield on Sat. He earned his fourth victory of the season and lowered his Avg. to 3.15.
- Ryan Ready has 12 goals for a team high and his eight PPG is tied for the most in the league.
- Alex Auld has eight wins and has a team-leading 2.79 Avg.
- Tyler Bouck leads with 60 PIM.
- Defenceman Darrell Hay leads the team with a +5 rating.
- Manitoba has taken 33.33 shots per game (27gp/900s), good for a fourth place tie in the league.
- Manitoba stands in a ninth place tie in the AHL with 3.07 goals per game (27gp/83g).
- The team's penalty kill ranks 24th with 81.5 % (29g/157a).
- Manitoba ranks 11th in power play with 17.3% (31g/179a).
