
IceCaps to Celebrate Local Culture and Hall of Famers

The St. John's IceCaps will celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador's rich culture and the American Hockey League's colourful history in a pair of special events at the St. John's Convention Centre as part of the AHL All-Star Classic presented by Assante Wealth Management, February 10th through February 12th.
On Febraury 10th, a Taste of Newfoundland and Labrador will be presented by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. The St. John's Convention Centre will be transformed into an outport community providing out-of-towners a first-hand experience of the province's unique culture and heritage. In addition to live entertainment by traditional Newfoundland group Shanneyganock, guests - including the All-Stars - will enjoy a wide array of Newfoundland and Labrador delicacies.
On February 12th, fans can experience the history of the AHL at the American Hockey League Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony presented by Pepsi. This year's inductees into the AHL Hall of Fame include Bill Dineen, Al MacNeil, Bob Perrerault and St. John's native John Slaney.
The Taste of Newfoundland and Labrador event starts at 7:30 p.m., February 10th and the Hall of Fame ceremony is slated for 11:30 a.m., February 12th. Tickets, which cover both events, go on sale Saturday at noon, are $125 (plus taxes and surcharges) and can be purchased in person at the Mile One Centre box office (12-5 NT), by phone at 709-576-7657 (9:30-5:30 NT), or online at mileonecentre.com.
A limited number of tickets remain available for the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Assante Wealth Management. The 2014 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Assante Wealth Management in St. John's will be the 20th edition of the modern AHL All-Star event, and the first to feature an international opponent as a team of American Hockey League All-Stars takes on FÃÆÃ¤rjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League. Of the 630 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since the event was reinstated in 1995, more than 93 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Daniel Briere, Ryan Callahan, Zdeno Chara, Jimmy Howard, Niklas Kronwall, Chris Kunitz, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Tuukka Rask, Pekka Rinne, Bobby Ryan, Martin St. Louis, Cory Schneider, Patrick Sharp, Jason Spezza and Eric Staal.
